Robometrics® Law Foundation · Public-interest research

Artificial Intelligence
and Access to Justice

The Robometrics® Law Foundation explores how advanced AI and foundation models might make legal information, education and dispute-resolution support more accessible while preserving the importance of accuracy, fairness and professional judgment.

The research problem

Legal rights are difficult to exercise when the relevant rules are complex, guidance is expensive and people face barriers of language or experience. The Foundation's mission is to investigate ways AI could help more individuals understand legal concepts and navigate procedures, independent of financial or social status.

This is a public-interest program at the intersection of AI capabilities, access to justice, human-centered interfaces and governance. It is organizationally separate from Robometrics® AGI and Robometrics® Machines.

Illustrative AI-assisted legal systems

Legal information · California

Virtual Cali Tenant Counselor

The Foundation's public site describes a virtual counselor organized around California tenant and landlord law, with the goal of making complex housing rules easier to understand.

Legal information · US immigration

Virtual Immigration Law Counselor

The Foundation's public site describes an assistant drawing on US immigration statutes, federal regulations and administrative policy to help people orient themselves within a complex legal system.

AI governance · Human rights

Reliability, fairness and legal agency

Research questions include provenance of legal sources, factual reliability, language access, privacy, human oversight, update cycles and how AI affects a person's ability to advocate for their rights.

These systems are described as legal-information aids and research directions, not licensed attorney services. AI-generated guidance can be wrong, outdated or incomplete and should not substitute for qualified legal counsel.

Law, technology and public scholarship

Related writing examines AI accountability, legal institutions, governance, human agency, intellectual property, and the tension between technological progress and regulation. The Foundation's access-to-justice mission is connected to—but distinct from—broader scientific research into how intelligent systems communicate, reason and make consequential recommendations.
