Peer-to-peer Systems with Physical Environment and Processing Constraints

At IBM Research Zurich with Dr. Francoise Dolivo, I invented a mechanism to enable data exchange between cargo containers in a ship hull using acoustics as the transport since communication using radio frequency was not possible due to environmental constraints. This invention can also be used in under water submarines and navy defence monitoring stations that are so deep in water that it is RF can’t penetrate. We also solved the issue of building an ad-hoc peer-to-peer network where each peer is power constraint, need to self-organize into a network, and have to be left unattended for months in a row.
